From the office of the DCE:

He who was seated on the throne said, “I am making everything new!

Revelation 21:5a

With that in mind, here are some new things that are coming your way!

Getting to Know Your DCE:

Are you a parent who feels like they are being pulled in a hundred different directions with the busyness of your family’s schedule? The church can help! If you have kids that are involved in extracurricular activities, I’d love to hear about it! Better yet, I’d love to come and and support your child and to spend some quality time with you and your family! So if you have kids that are involved in things like: sports, drama, etc. I can come out for some of their activities. All I need from you as the parents is a copy of what their schedule looks like. After that, I can let you know when I’m available to attend an event. It’s that simple!

Confirmation Retreat:

Spring is nearly here and with it comes our Confirmation retreat! This year we will be going to Camp Dixie for the weekend of March 16th-18th. The students will be growing closer together in fellowship with one another, as well as closer to God, as they learn more about who they truly are and that their identity lies in Jesus Christ.

We will meet up on Friday evening at the church and we hope to be back on Sunday in time for you to pick up your child after the worship service. (Students will text or call their parents with updates on ETA as we get closer to the church on our return trip).

The cost is $75 per Confirmation student, this will cover their meals and lodging for the weekend. Students will also need to bring a community snack and a 2-liter bottle of their preferred soda. Be on the lookout for the sign-up sheet and packing list that I will be sending out as we get closer to the retreat dates.

At Grace we don’t want to see the spiritual development of anyone hindered, especially by finances. If you think that this retreat will be too much of a financial strain on you and your family, please talk with me before making your final decision regarding the retreat. As often times there are things that we can do to ensure that all the Confirmation students can attend this spiritually dynamic event.

Confirmation Time is Moving:

After the concept of shifting the time that our Confirmation students meet at was brought to my attention, I spoke to Pastor Carstens about this and sent out emails to all of you as the parents of our Confirmation students. As of March 4th, the time that Confirmation meets at will be changing to Sunday morning. Please be on the lookout for more details regarding that as time moves on.

Mission Trip:

If you are between the spectrum of an outbound 8th grader all the way through to being an outbound 12th grader then you are in luck, because that means that you could have the opportunity to join Grace on a mission trip this summer!

If having the opportunity to travel, make new friends, grow in your relationship with Jesus and having the opportunity to be the physical hands and feet of Jesus to others sounds like something that you’re interested in, then we’d love to have you join us!

Anyone, student or adult, who is interested in going on a summer mission trip with the Grace Lutheran Church youth, needs to contact me before Sunday, March 11th.

Youth Fundraisers:

I am happy to announce that the youth of Grace will not only be hosting one fundraising events, but two! The youth and I will be getting together on Saturday, March 3rd at 5pm to build string Easter egg-shaped baskets. (Food and sodas will be provided). These will be colorful in nature and they will be themed and/or decorated by our very own youth! As we get closer to Easter, these wonderfully colorful creations will be put out on display in the Welcome Center and each of them will be for sale. 100% of all of the proceeds will go towards funding our youth ministry here at Grace, as well as some of the spiritual-developing events and activities that we take part in.

All youth 6th-12th grade (and parent volunteers), please RSVP for this fundraising event with me before March 1st.

The second fundraiser will be our Easter breakfast! Students ranging from 6th grade-12 grade are being asked to help with this event. As we will need help preparing the food in the kitchen as well as when it comes time to serve the food to the members and guests of Grace. Parents, you play a huge role in this event too! If you are wanting to help with this effort, please contact me. Whether it’s a donation of funds for food, time spent in the kitchen alongside of the youth, or time spent helping to set-up and tear-down the tables and chairs in the Fellowship Hall for this event, I need your help.

All youth 6th grade-12th grade (and parent volunteers), please RSVP for this fundraising event before March 15th.

An Investment Worth-While:

Most people will tell you that one of the best things you can do investment-wise is to buy some real estate. But what if I told you that there was another way for you to invest? One of the biggest ways that you can have an impact on the lives of your family members is to show them how much they mean to you by loving on them and supporting them in the things that they are involved in.

The gift of time is such a precious thing, especially when viewed through the eyes of our students and youth. Volunteering to help with an aspect of our youth ministry here at Grace is a fun way to be able to continue to invest in the lives of your children and of our youth here at Grace. I know, most people usually translate the word “volunteering” in their minds to say, “a black hole that demands a life-long commitment from me”.

I am here to tell you that is simply not the case. There are volunteer positions for everyone! Be it for a short-term length of time, a mid-range length of time and for those who are interested, long-term volunteer positions.

God has blessed all of us with some many talents and abilities! May we seek to glorify Him in all that we do, by being blessed to be a blessing to others around us, be it the kids in our children’s ministry program, the youth in our youth ministry, or in other capacities around our church and our community.

In Him,

Josh McNamara
